The Polish government has sided with violating human rights, but we – citizens – can still offer mutual aid. We are not powerless, we have the tools for this.
Solidarity with people on the move is within our reach, and it is our duty.
Through the Nomada website, you can support people in detention: https://nomada.info.pl/produkt/wsparcie-osoby-w-drodze
⚫️ People end up in detention not because they broke the law, but because they are seeking safety. Refugees can be deprived of their freedom for up to two years, even though they haven’t committed any crime. Detention primarily affects individuals who are alone and have experienced violence. Among them are also children.
Our organization is approached by people who are in closed detention centers, such as Lesznowola or Kętrzyn, but also in open centers, such as in Biała Podlaska or Bezwola. These are men, women, and children from countries such as Iran, Iraq, Bangladesh, India, Eritrea, Sudan, Somalia, Morocco, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, and many others.
What are the conditions like in the centers?
▪️ The food is often unsuitable for the needs of people from other countries.
▪️ People in the centers have no contact with their relatives – they lack phone top-ups and SIM cards.
▪️ There is a lack of hygiene products and warm clothing.
▪️ People often arrive with nothing – they need underwear and shoes.
Many people reach out to us asking for help, and we don’t always have the ability to respond to every request. Without you – we can’t do it. Only together can we truly be effective.
