REPORT ON THE MINORITIES

22/06/2012 by redaktor

“Report on the Minorities” is a joint project of „Wiedza Lokalna” Foundation and Collegium Civitas funded by the program of Stefan Batory Foundation called „Demokracja w działaniu. Tolerancja” (Democracy in Action) . Since May 2012, Nomada Association took part in the second stage of project on the local partnership level.

On the project

The hate speech and the hostile language are the widespread phenomenon on the Internet. Very often intolerant opinions break the law, but other times, they “only” fuel the mutual reluctance. The problem is that these animosities penetrate into the real world. We know plenty of cases where virtual aggression led to the real harm. The aim of project is to implement the monitoring of the content published by users of the Internet. We are focused particularly on aggression towards ethnic, religious, sexual and others minorities. We have worked out new instruments which can automatically identify this content and we are installing the monitoring on more and more discussion forums. The form of the report is a data base published on the Internet and regularly updated. It accumulates the information about intolerant statements. The access to data base is available for representatives of NGOs’s, the public administration and journalists.
