Meetings with History: legacy for today’s fight against discrimination, racism, xenophobia

14/07/2015 by redaktor

In 1937, at the top Ettersberg mount, near Weimar, a concentration camp called “Buchenwald” was build. More than 56,000 people died there: Jews, Sinti and Roma, Jehovah’s Witnesses, homosexuals, homeless, political prisoners, and others.

Together with other young European people from Germany, Poland and Romania we traveled there to “meet with history.” Tours and meetings led by Zsuzsa of the Buchenwald Memorial gave us grounds to begin the discussion on current forms of discrimination and the continuing history of prejudice and unequal treatment of certain groups in Europe. Our attention caught especially the current situation of Roma people in Europe. As participants we had the opportunity to share our observations (insights) and knowledge about this matter.

During our stay in Buchenwald we managed to make a Facebook profile, blog “Meetings with history”, you tube chanel where one can read about our discussions, mutual learning process and about our actions.

The project “Meetings with history – the legacy of ongoing fight against discrimination, racism and xenophobia” was co-financed by the Foundation EVZ, the Polish–German Youth Cooperation.

The meeting could be organized thanks to the enormous work of Quantic Association (Romania) and Berlin VVN–BDA (Germany).
